The Kommetjie Primary School "Hippies vs. Hipsters" Social.

What better way to celebrate the end of the EXAMS and the end of Term Two, than by throwing a Disco party like no other.
So this Friday (19th June) we will be throwing our great Intersen Social.

We had the children write down what theme they would like to have and "Hippies vs. Hipsters" was the chosen one!
So come dressed as a Hippie or a Hipster!

And for just R40,
we will not only throw you a massive party but we will feed you too!
1x hot dog,
1x cup of juice
and 1x packet of the finest chips we can lay our hands on.

Time: 6pm – 8pm

(Please could everyone try to hand in the reply slip and the money as soon as possible)

Outing to the Simonstown Museum (21st May)

In History we had been learning about Nelson Mandela.
On the 21st of May we had the privilege of going to the Simonstown museum to learn about The Group Areas Act and to do a "Treasure Hunt".

The girls sitting on the canon.
And now it is the boys turn.

These ones found the anchor to be quite interesting.

Our introduction to the Group areas act by Suzette.

A heartfelt true story about life through the group areas act by Aunty Lilly.

Some of the boys enjoying their lunch.
The binoculars were quite the attraction during their lunch time.

And off we go!

Researching for the Treasure Hunt.

The boys wondering where I was taking pictures from.

And down we go!

Interested in the giant map showing how Simonstown looked before.

Aunty Lilly helping them a little bit.

Mrs. Teixeira getting in on the action.

Trying to find the last few answers.

Going through the answers and finding out which group won.
It was a very interesting day, with the children learning a lot about how times were during Apartheid and the problems for the people.

Technology Pillar Strength

The children were learning about the strengths of different shapes and to do this we had them build pillars using the different shapes and layer their books on top to see which shape could take the most weight.

The groups starting to build their pillars for their test.

Starting to layer the books on top of their pillars.
Too much!

The boys doing the project outside.

The children writing down their results.
The children had a lot of fun with this task and did very well at it.

Knitting

For the past few weeks we have been knitting squares and squares. The aim of this is to knit all the small squares into as many blankets as we can to give away to charity.
The boys were a little bit hesitant to knit, as it is "too girly", but after they started it seemed like they were more into it!
